IMHANS provided technical support to the Special Anganwadi project organized in Kozhikode district as pilot project by the State Initiative on Disabilities. The aim was to identify selected anganwadis in the district as special anganwadis or model amganwadis and provide facilities for basic early intervention therapy to children with developmental disorders. It was envisaged that children who attend the CDDP (Mobile Intervention Units) for remedial therapy are sent to the nearest special anganwadi where they receive follow up care by trained anganwadi teacher and special educator. Training to the anganwadi teachers and special educators were organized by IMHANS using an early intervention module prepared for this purpose with support from the Prasanthi school for children with special needs. As part of the project 20 anganwadis were identified in the district and special educators were appointed.
