IMHANS is the pioneer institute in Kerala to introduce the Postgraduate Diploma in Early Intervention during the academic year 2025-26. The course is affiliated with the Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS) and has an intake of 8 students per year, also recognized by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI). The course is developed as a one-year full-time program with extensive clinical and theoretical inputs to acquire the necessary skills in the area of neurobiology of childhood disability, normal and abnormal child development, disability prevention, early detection, therapeutic intervention, like physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, play therapy, group therapy, family education, and counselling etc.
Early intervention is one of the most rewarding specializations in the field of disability rehabilitation, and it is the best way to prevent developmental delay and improve the quality of children with various disabilities. The Early Intervention Credential enables a medical/allied medical/ rehabilitation professional to work with children from birth to 3 years. A trained early interventionist can offer a wide variety of medical, educational, psycho-social, and therapeutic treatments for an at-risk baby or one with Neuro-developmental abnormalities, as well as socio-economically disadvantaged children.
