IMHANS provided technical support to the Special Anganwadi project organized in Kozhikode district as a pilot project by the State Initiative on Disabilities. The aim was to identify selected Anganwadi in the community as special Anganwadis or model Anganwadi and provide essential early intervention therapy facilities to children with developmental disorders. As part of the project, 20 anganwadis were identified in the district and appointed special educators. Envisaged them that children who attend the CDDP (Mobile Intervention Units) for remedial therapy are sent to the nearest special Anganwadi, where they receive follow-up care from a trained Anganwadi teacher and special educator. Training for the Anganwadi teachers and special educators was organized by IMHANS using an early intervention module prepared for this purpose with support from the Prasanthi school for children with special needs.
